Powerglove's Saturday Morning Apocalypse

Start with Danny Elfman's Batman theme + Heavy Metal + 8 bit platformer = Epic Fun!

I have not laughed that hard in a really long time.

Did they stop at Batman? No!  They covered all the classic:

Their cover of the X-men theme is amazing, and the Transformers, wow.  I feel guilty I didn't know about this sooner.

Thanks to Badass Nerd for sharing the video.  This is in rotation for me now.

Review: Transformers 3

Transformers 3 is awesome movie. My expectations for a giant killer robot movie are simple. First, giant robots. Secondly, stuff blowing up. Thirdly, see the first two and do many of it lots of robots and tons of explosions. Thats it. As expected Transformers 3 had lots of giant killer robots and stuff blowing up. The pleasant surprise and bonus came in the form of a good storyline that did not seem out of place with nor detract from all of the explosions and giant robots. After the film I discovered that Orci and Kurtzman had nothing to do with the writing, a smart choice by Bay since the writing on this film is way better then the first two. Another pleasant deviation from the first two Transformers movies was being spared the bad acting of Megan Fox. In Transformers 3 we get to meet the beef's new love interest played beautifully by Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. I would even go so far as to say her screen presence helped the beef with his performance. The effects look great. This is a must see and the best of the Transformers movies not counting the 80's animated one which will be incredibly hard to beat.

Starscream and his followers

I found this picture in the Otakon Pool on Flickr, and kind of fell in love with it.  They don't say if it was a costume or not, but based on the arms, I presume it is someone on stilts.  Too bad he is about to die.  I mean everyone knows that Starscream donned the crown moments before Galvatron showed up and killed him.  Poor Starscream.

SF News Bites: Avengers, Transformers 3, Conan The Barbarian and Mortal Kombat

Avengers

Producer Kevin Feige confirms the main characters in the Avengers movie.  "It’s three people – four including the Hulk; five including Nick Fury – who you’ve seen before in other movies, coming together for the very first time.”  I can only hope that this movie is as good as Ultimate Avengers animated movie.  (via Gay Sci-Fi Nerds)

Transformers  3

In the works as expected.  Currently Michael Bay is moving along with the script and scouting locations for Transformers 3: Chicago, Detroit, and Washington D.C.  I really enjoyed the first two Transformers movies my main concern is in the script. (via SCI FI Wire)

Conan the Barbarian

Jason Momoa has been cast as the New Conan The Barbarian.  I'm excited with that pick.  Jason's a great guy, talented actor and can physically fill the role of Conan.  Most are familiar with him playing as Ronon Dex from Stargate: Atlantis  (via /Film)

Mortal Kombat

A Mortal Kombat redo is in the works, they have selected a writer Oren Uziel.  The hope at /Film is that he will bring more depth to the Mortal Kombat movies then the previous films.  I like the idea of adding more story depth to the Mortal Kombat movies but that can not be at the cost of loosing what made the series so great.  They are so much fun to watch.

Will Aliens Be the New Vampires?

Advertising for District 9 found on the side o... Image via Wikipedia

With the success of recent films like the Transformers movies and District 9 (and to a lesser extent, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, which is the 26th highest grossing film worldwide), it seems like Hollywood is going alien crazy, giving the green light and putting a lot of alien-based stories in development — more than ever before. In a couple years, will aliens be the new vampires?  -(via /Film)

Will Aliens be the New Vampires?

No, the rise in interest in alien movies is just part of the Hollywood system.  The very same system that will also decide people aren’t interested in Aliens as much as Vampire’s.

Hollywood has a past track record for starting many projects to hedge their bet on what the next big fad will be.  Many of these projects get dumped or shelved after the sales numbers come in.

The sales numbers are not so good for alien movies.  Transformers and Indiana Jones are franchises in their own right and won’t be thought of by the studios as alien movies.

There are also a lot of superhero movie projects in the works.  Could the superhero movie be the next thing?  With such a diverse story and setting potential there is a lot more that could be explored in this area on the big screen.

Vampire movies are still bringing in a lot for the studios.  Do you think they will continue doing more of them?  I hope not, it pains me to say that but with so many bad ones out there I would like for it to be given a rest.

What would you like to see as the next movie phase?

DVD Releases: October 20th 2009

Out this week we have three DVDs to feature:  Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Blood: The Last VampireBlood+: Part Two.  Do we Love It, Rent it, or Avoid Like Plague?  [reus name="Transformers revenge of fallen iFrame"]

Owner

Renter

  • Blood+: Part Two is a series based on the 2000 anime film Blood: The Last Vampire about a little girl vampire hunter.  The 2000 animated film of Blood didn't spark my interest but the new movie that came out this year looked interesting and is a renter.  My interest in the movie is why this is a renter.  It will sit low on my rental list though I'm still unsure about it and will wait to watch the movie first.  If you have any comments on the Blood movie's or this series please let me know.

Review: Transformers Revenge of the Fallen

Review of: Transformers Revenge of the Fallen

transformers-2-posterOverall Rating: 10

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is everything I expected it to be… A giant robot action film and a rip roaring wild ride.  I particularly enjoyed how the story focused on the robots while Sam Witwicky’s story takes on the role of supporting story line.  The pacing is swift and the immaculate reality is maintained throughout the movie to the point that it feels like a short movie even though it runs for almost three hours.

The effects looks great, they continued and improved upon all of those wonderful little moving parts that thrilled us in the 2007 Transformers movie.  There are many intense fight scenes that not only featured the spectacle of the fight but also demonstrated style and strategy which gave more depth.

The Plot / Story: Decepticon forces return to Earth on a mission to take Sam Witwicky prisoner, after the young hero learns the truth about an energon source. Joining the mission to protect humankind is Optimus Prime, who forms an alliance with international armies for a second epic battle.

  3. Transformers: (80's animated and the live action one)  Giant Robots Fun

  4. Harry Potter films:  what a wonderful story arc, the books are better

  6. The Day the Earth Stood Still

  7. Serenity

  8. V for Vendetta:  the political exploration and the exploration of the power of symbolism and symbols.

  9. Planet of the Apes: the 1968 version it's a great social exploration.

  10. Frank Herbert's Dune: kind of a fudge because it aired on TV but I watch all of them as a long movie

Exploring: Transformers Revenge of the Fallen

transformers-2-posterA must see in the theaters for me mostly for the giant killer robots.  I really liked the first Transformers movie, read my review here, and with this one promising to have even more robots it can only get better.
