Indiana Jones Wanted Dead Or Alive

I’ve been thinking about doing a Indiana Jones video for a while and came across this vid by Jesuit.

A video in tribute to the latest Indy adventure concerning a Crystal Skull. Footage from all the first three movies (Raiders of the Lost Ark, Temple of Doom, Last Crusade) set to Bon Jovi's Wanted Dead or Alive. Because Jonesy is a cowboy with his steel horses and whatnot. Inspiration came from an Adam Monroe video I saw set to Behind Blue Eyes, a splitscreen masterpiece which I've recreated best to my ability before slapping some Olde film grain effects on top. As usual with film grain effects though, Youtube butchered it into undetailed blurriness.

It is a perfect example of how to cut clips to the beat of the song.  I would love to see a follow up video to Bon Jovi’s ”Blaze Of Glory”.

Will Aliens Be the New Vampires?

Advertising for District 9 found on the side o... Image via Wikipedia

With the success of recent films like the Transformers movies and District 9 (and to a lesser extent, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, which is the 26th highest grossing film worldwide), it seems like Hollywood is going alien crazy, giving the green light and putting a lot of alien-based stories in development — more than ever before. In a couple years, will aliens be the new vampires?  -(via /Film)

Will Aliens be the New Vampires?

No, the rise in interest in alien movies is just part of the Hollywood system.  The very same system that will also decide people aren’t interested in Aliens as much as Vampire’s.

Hollywood has a past track record for starting many projects to hedge their bet on what the next big fad will be.  Many of these projects get dumped or shelved after the sales numbers come in.

The sales numbers are not so good for alien movies.  Transformers and Indiana Jones are franchises in their own right and won’t be thought of by the studios as alien movies.

There are also a lot of superhero movie projects in the works.  Could the superhero movie be the next thing?  With such a diverse story and setting potential there is a lot more that could be explored in this area on the big screen.

Vampire movies are still bringing in a lot for the studios.  Do you think they will continue doing more of them?  I hope not, it pains me to say that but with so many bad ones out there I would like for it to be given a rest.

What would you like to see as the next movie phase?

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade Art

Eric-Tan-indiana-jones-poster

I love this poster... Eric Tan did an amazing job in creating this poster for Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.  He successfully captured all of the major plot points and elements from the movie.  I love the subtle touches used to give the poster a feel like one from the 40's with the filmed in color banner and the limited color scheme.

I agree with Tan that this is also my favorite of the Indiana Jones films.

Speculative Fiction Movies Dominate top 25

Get your copy of The Dark Knight on DVD and help support the project IMDB presented their top 25 searched for films of 2008.  They wanted to go for a ranking that was not based on box-office performance or critical assessments.  I was pleasantly surprised to see how many speculative fiction movies were on the list.

  1. The Dark Knight (2008)

  2. Twilight (2008)

  3. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009)

  4. TR2N (2011) Tron 2, I still don’t really care for the name

  5. The Expendables (2010)

  6. Iron Man (2008)

  7. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008)

  8. No Country for Old Men (2007)

  9. Juno (2007)

  10. Transformers (2007)

  11. The Incredible Hulk (2008)

  12. There Will Be Blood (2007)

  13. Sex and the City (2008)

  14. Into the Wild (2007)

  15. Superbad (2008)

  20. Quantum of Solace (2008)

  21. The Departed (2006)

  22. Star Trek (2009) This is J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek

  23. The Godfather (1972)

  24. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009)

  25. The Shawshank Redemption (1994)

SF moves took up 60% of the chart with only 1/3 of those movies being ones that have not been released yet.

I find these search reports to be fascinating like a snap shot of what is on peoples minds and what they are curious about.

Randal Graves and the Empire Top 100

randaltop100 Randal Graves from Kevin Smith’s brilliant film Clerks has is number 92 on Empire’s Top 100 Greatest Movie Characters.
Why He's On The List: Randal is the voice of countless generations - anyone who's had a shitty customer service job in their early twenties will understand his attitude, wishing they could have articulated their frustration with his artful profanity and supreme disregard for, well, anything. But the key to Randal is that he doesn't necessarily hate his job, it's just that he remembers not to care (Empire).

Also on the List:

It is great to see how many Speculative Fiction characters make the list, especially in the top 10.  It makes me wonder if we should make our own list.

What Costume Will You Wear For Halloween?

Neo With Halloween fast approaching are you still looking for that knock out costume?  Rotten Tomatoes would like to help.  They put together a great costume guide on 16 different movie characters.  Each character or set of characters is set on their own page but they put a nice thumbnail navigation at the bottom of each page making this a pleasant experience.  The 16 characters to choose from are Jay & Silent Bob, Indiana Jones, Juno MacGuff, The Fox, Carrie, John Rambo, Marty Mcfly, Zohan, Nurse Joker, Neo, The Dude, Goo Yubari & the Crazy 88, Margot, & Richie Tenenbaum, The Grady Twins, and Toshio and Kayako.

The guides are great and include a nice picture of the character, a huge plus when trying to get the costume right.  A list of things that you will need for the costume which is a helpful reference.  For instance if you want to dress up like Jay you would need long blonde hair.  A list of movies they appear in so if you really want to get into the character you can watch them in action and pick up their nuances taking that cosplay to the next level.  They also include a classic line which can be used to better act out the character, a nice feature but too short for best cosplay.  For instance on the Jay and Silent Bob page they include the line “Snoochie Boochies” a classic Jay line but for Bob they should have included Bob’s classic line which would be “______ *shrug*.”

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull on DVD

It’s Here!  It’s Here!

indiana_jones_and_the_kingdom_of_the_crystal_skull I know what I want for my birthday, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull on DVD.  It’s out on DVD October 14 2008 as a 2 disc special edition, Blue Ray and as a super pack Indiana Jones - The Complete Adventures Collection (Raiders of the Lost Ark/ Temple of Doom/ Last Crusade/ Kingdom of the Crystal Skull).  I’m pleased to see the cover art is better than some of the other pictures that were being vetted but I still think they could have used something better.  Unfortunately the cover for the super pack was not nearly as nice as the last super pack they did.  The extras include behind-the-scenes material on visual effects, stunts, makeup and the far-flung locations where the movie was shot.

I should warn you… Hi I’m Brian and I’m a fan of Indiana Jones.  This was a great Indiana Jones movie not the best but definitely up there.  The reviews of this movie is mixed and mainly it’s because people either got it or not.  Fans loved this movie because it kept with the over the top swashbuckling adventure we have come to love and expect from an Indiana Jones film.  If you are not a fan of this then I am pleased to see you have read this far and would recommend sating your interest by starting with Raiders of the Lost Ark.  My full review can be read here: Exploring: Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

indiana jones1

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull picks up 18 years after The Last Crusade.  Indiana gets pulled back into action chasing after the mythological Crystal Skull trying to keep the soviets from getting it first. His journey takes him from Connecticut, through New Mexico, the Jungles of Peru and Mexico City.
